The idea

Bunk & Board is an imagined hostel brand for young travellers. I created the brand identity and designed and built a website with a booking engine, to show how a hostel can build a strong brand and take direct bookings from its own website.

What I made

  • Brand identityA chunky brown wordmark with a mountain line, on cards, stickers, key tags and the cafe menu
  • Guest websiteA day in three halves (work, wander, bonfire), beds with photos and floor plans, and house notes
  • Booking enginePick dates and a bed, see the price, with long-stay discounts worked out live
  • Owner viewBeds filled tonight, a 14-night calendar the owner can block, bookings and rates

Why direct booking

Same bed, same price, but booking direct comes with a few extras the apps can't give: first breakfast free, one free date change and a real person on WhatsApp. That gives guests a reason to book on the hostel's own site, and the hostel keeps the commission.

Design decisions

For a hostel, personality is the product, so the writing does a lot of the branding: house notes like "Read them once. Bhalu never has." The site is built for people who work remotely, so desks, internet backup and long-stay prices come first.

This is a self-initiated concept: a brand I created to explore an idea, not work for a paying client. Photos are AI-generated for the concept.
